Find the perfect fit for you.

Finding the correct maternity or nursing bra fit is essential for comfort during pregnancy and postpartum. As your body changes, regular measurements are key to ensuring proper support. Follow these simple steps to measure yourself at home.

Fit Tips

How Should a Maternity Bra Fit?

When trying on a new maternity or nursing bra, assess the fit using these key points:

  1. The Straps: The straps should be secure and comfortable on your shoulders, without digging or slipping. They should only offer a small amount of lift; most of the support should come from the band.
  2. The Cups: Your entire breast should fit comfortably within the cup. Check for any overflowing, bulging, or gaping, especially under the armpit.
  3. The Centre Front: The fabric or piece connecting the cups at the front of the bra should lay flat against your sternum (the bone in the center of your chest). If it’s elevated or digging in, the cup size is likely too small.
  4. The Band: The band should sit straight and flat around your body, running comfortably. It should feel secure but not dig into your skin. Most of the bra’s support comes from the band.

Important Note: Breast changes can happen quickly during pregnancy and nursing. It’s advisable to check your measurements regularly and look for professional fitting assistance if you are unsure of your size.

How to Measure Your Bust Size for a Maternity Bra

At Klare Maternity, we are dedicated to ensuring you find the best fitting maternity and nursing wear. Getting the right bra fit is key to your comfort throughout pregnancy and nursing, and it's simpler than you think!

We strongly recommend you follow the straightforward steps on this page to measure yourself at home.

Please note: Your breasts change rapidly during pregnancy, which can make self-fitting a little tricky. We always advise seeking a professional bra fitting where possible. Keep this in mind, especially if you are choosing less-flexible styles, as your size may change again soon!

Step 1

Measure Your Underbust (Band Size)

Your band size provides the primary support for your breasts, so an accurate measurement is crucial.

  1. Wear a non-padded bra that fits you comfortably.
  2. Wrap the measuring tape directly under your bust, where the bra band sits.
  3. Ensure the tape is snug (not too tight, but not slack) and level all the way around your body (use a mirror to check the back).
  4. Round the measurement to the nearest whole number.
  5. This raw measurement will be used to determine your final band size (e.g., 34, 36) using the specific size chart for the maternity brand you are buying from.
Under Bust Measurement (Inches)
26 - 27 28 - 30 31 - 33 34 - 36 37 - 38 39 - 40 41 - 42 43 - 44
Your Universal Band Size Is:
30 32 34 36 38 40 42 44

Step 2

Measure Your Overbust (Bust Size)

This measurement determines your cup size.

  1. Measure around the fullest part of your breasts. This is typically across the nipple line.
  2. Ensure the measuring tape is level and not too tight, but just resting over the breast tissue.
  3. Note this measurement and round it to the nearest whole number. This is your Bust Measurement.

Step 3

Calculate Your Cup Size

Your cup size is determined by the difference between your Overbust (Bust) Measurement and your Underbust (Band) Measurement.

  1. Subtract your Band Measurement (from Step 1) from your Bust Measurement (from Step 2).Bust Measurement−Band Measurement=Difference in Inches
  2. Determine your Cup Letter by using the brand's size chart to match the difference in inches to a cup letter. Generally, each inch represents an increase in cup size (e.g., 1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, 3 inches = C, and so on).Example: If your Band Measurement is 34" and your Bust Measurement is 37", the difference is 3 inches, which typically corresponds to a C cup. Your size would be 34C.
